The Mitsubishi M8V Series Control
Every Nomura DS Swiss-type lathe and compact machining center runs on a Mitsubishi M8V Series CNC control, one of the fastest and most intuitive platforms in the industry. From setup to production, it is engineered to keep operators efficient and machines cutting.

The Mitsubishi M8V Series Control
The control is the interface between your team and the machine. It determines how quickly operators can set up jobs, how efficiently programs run, and how much visibility you have into what is happening on the shop floor.
Nomura DS equips every Swiss-type lathe and compact machining center with Mitsubishi Electric's M8V Series control as standard. The M8V platform combines a high-speed processor, multi-touch operation, and industry-standard G-code programming in a package designed for production environments where uptime and ease of use matter most.
Whether your shop runs high-volume Swiss work, compact milling operations, or both, the control experience is consistent across the entire Nomura DS lineup.
The Swiss-Type Lathe
The Swiss CNC machine, once confined to niche applications, was initially favored for its proficiency in crafting intricate, small, and elongated components. Functioning as a variant of the standard CNC lathe, this specialized turning apparatus directs bar stock through a guide bushing, facilitating tool engagement close to the supportive point.

The Fastest Processor in Its Class
Cycle time starts with the control's ability to process program blocks. The M8V Series processes up to 540,000 blocks per minute with look-ahead of 5,400 blocks (M800V), enabling the machine to maintain smooth tool paths and consistent surface finishes even on complex CAM-generated programs.
For shops running compact machining centers on tight-tolerance milled parts or Swiss lathes producing intricate medical or connector components, this processing speed translates directly into shorter cycle times and better finishes without sacrificing accuracy.

Take Control with Ease
Operator efficiency is a direct contributor to shop profitability. The M8V Series is designed to minimize the learning curve and keep experienced operators productive from day one.
The M8V uses the same multi-touch gestures operators already know from smartphones and tablets. Pinch to zoom on program displays, drag and flick to navigate menus, and tap to select. No additional hardware or special training required.
The M8V runs industry-standard G-code and EIA programming. Operators familiar with other major control platforms can transition without learning a new language. Macro programming is also standard on every M8V control.
Not sure about a specific G-code? Type the code in the edit screen and the control displays a diagram showing the format, required variables, and whether the command is modal. Built-in reference eliminates the need to pull up manuals during programming.
For operators who prefer conversational programming over manual G-code entry, Navi Mill provides icon-based cycle creation for facing, contouring, pocketing, drilling, tapping, boring, and more. Easy-to-follow diagrams guide each cycle, and one-time setup for tools and materials makes switching between jobs straightforward.
Tool Management & Production Control
-
Smarter Tool and Production Management
Managing tools across long production runs or high-mix environments requires visibility. The M8V centralizes tool data and gives operators real-time control over cutting conditions.
-
Tool Management System
Create custom data for each tool, including tool shape, offset values, tool life data, and specifications, all displayed in one place. During each tool change, a tool icon appears on the monitor confirming the correct tool data is assigned to the active tool. This data carries over into Navi Mill conversational programming.
-
Cutting Load Control
The control automatically adjusts feed rate so the actual load matches your predefined target during machining. Eight parameter groups let you dial in the right response for different tool and workpiece combinations, protecting tools and maintaining finish quality without constant manual override.
-
Machining Conditions Selection
Configure up to nine machining condition sets and switch between them on the fly with a single G-code. Set aggressive parameters for roughing, moderate for semi-finish, and precise for final passes, then call each within the same program. This is especially valuable on Nomura DS Swiss machines running complex multi-operation parts.
Surface Finish & Accuracy
Surface finish and dimensional accuracy drive part quality. The M8V includes multiple features designed to maintain both, particularly on the complex geometries common in Swiss-type turning and high-speed milling.
CAM-generated programs often produce tool paths made of small straight-line segments. SSS blends these segments into smooth curves, improving surface finish while reducing cycle time by 10% to 20% through fewer unnecessary accelerations and decelerations. Standard on all M8V controls.
OMR-CC adjusts control processing to match workpiece geometry, correcting for the gap between programmed and actual tool position. The result is approximately 11% faster machining compared to the previous M800/M80 Series with no loss in accuracy.
Activated within a program or by parameter, tolerance control lets you set the allowable deviation. Use a larger value during roughing to reduce cycle time, then tighten it for finish passes. Standard on all M8V controls.
The M8V provides a dedicated screen for tuning high-accuracy parameters using three intuitive machining indexes: cycle time, accuracy, and quality. Operators can optimize results without deep parameter expertise.

Connectivity and Monitoring
Modern manufacturing requires visibility beyond the machine. The M8V supports multiple connectivity options for monitoring, data collection, and remote access.
Monitor any networked Nomura DS machine from a PC in the office. NC Monitor2 displays the same CNC screen the operator sees, navigable in real time. Screen changes from the office do not affect the machine, so operators can continue working. Access levels can be set to View and Change Data, View Only, or No Access.
For shops using enterprise systems or data collection platforms, the M8V supports the MTConnect standard through software adapters. Connect your Nomura DS machines to the dashboard or analytics platform of your choice to track OEE, cycle times, and machine utilization.
The M8V (M800VS/M80V) includes built-in wireless LAN as standard, enabling wireless data exchange with PC-based software tools. Transfer programs, back up data, and connect to shop networks without running cables to the machine.
This software replicates the M8V control interface on a PC. Navigate the control, create and edit programs, adjust tool offsets, change parameters, and run simulations, all without tying up a machine. Ideal for offline programming, operator training, and program verification before production.
Flexible Program Storage and Execution

SD Card and USB Support
The M8V uses standard SD cards (up to 32GB) in both front and rear slots, plus a front USB port. Programs can be run, edited, and created directly from any storage device with no performance lag. Sub-program calls can cross between devices. No proprietary memory upgrades needed.
Program Restart
After a tool break or power outage, the M8V remembers exactly where the program stopped. Use M/S/T history to select which functions to restore, or visually tap the restart point in the program. This minimizes scrap and gets the machine back into production quickly.
Program Protection
Lock up to 9,000 programs with display lock and program protection lock features, keeping critical production programs safe from accidental edits.
Automation Readiness
As shops look to extend unattended run time, the control needs to support integration with peripheral equipment.
The M8V supports robot coordination directly from the CNC program using screen guidance and special G-codes. No robot programming language expertise required. Coordinate loading, unloading, and part handling with machining cycles from a single program.
The M8V offers connectivity for CC-Link (Master/Slave), PROFIBUS-DP (Master), and EtherNet/IP (Scanner), supporting integration with PLCs, HMIs, robots, and other factory automation equipment.
Create QR code engraving programs using a built-in fixed cycle. Engraved barcodes on workpieces support traceability and can help automate high-mix production workflows.
One Control Across the Lineup
One Control Platform, Two Product Lines
Whether you are running a Nomura DS NN-20J3 Swiss lathe or a DST-40DL compact machining center, the Mitsubishi M8V is the same control platform. That means:
- Operators trained on one Nomura DS machine can move to another with minimal retraining
- Programming conventions, G-code structure, and screen navigation are consistent across Swiss and milling
- Offline programs created in NC Trainer2 Plus work across the lineup
- Shops running both Swiss and milling benefit from a single training investment and unified shop floor workflow
This consistency is a deliberate part of how Nomura DS engineers its machines for production environments where flexibility and operator efficiency drive profitability.
